Difference between Montblanc 146 and 149
The Montblanc 146 and 149 are two of the most popular writing instruments in the world. They are both round barrel, piston-fill fountain pens with 14 carat gold nibs. The 146 is available in a range of sizes from medium to large, while the 149 is only available as a medium size.
The 146 and 149 are both variations on the same theme. They have a similar shape and size, with the 146 being a bit smaller. The 146 has a thin white band around the cap, while the 149 has a wide black band around it. The 149 also comes in two nib sizes, medium and fine. The 146 only comes in medium.
The 149 is an older pen, first produced in 1999 or 2000. It’s been discontinued for a few years now, but you can still find new ones on eBay or other online sources if you’re lucky. It was originally sold as part of Montblanc’s LeGrand range of pens (named after Jean-Jacques de Boissieu), which included other fountain pens with similar designs (e.g., LeGrand Burgundy). The 149 was also available as part of Montblanc’s limited edition series called Special Editions Icons, which featured several different models based on famous people (e.g., Einstein).
The 146 is more recent than the 149 and was introduced in 2007 as part of Montblanc’s Starwalker series (which also includes watches). It comes in three colors: red lacquer with gold trim; black lacquer with silver trim; below are differences between the two;

The 149 has an 18K solid gold nib and uses cartridges (or converters) to hold the ink. The 149 is the most inexpensive option, and it’s more commonly used by beginners because they’re easier to clean and maintain than piston fillers are.

Conclusion
These are actually different pens, but they are both made of very important metal, gold. The 146 is often referred to as “classic” and crafted between 1929-1940. It is quite a bit curved. They made 149 after the 146 in 1953 and the most similar part to its design is the clip and cap ring.
